Privacy Policy

Last updated: 5 October 2026

This policy explains what personal information Meetlyo collects when you join our early-access waitlist at meetlyo.com, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. It covers the waitlist only. Before the Meetlyo app or service launches, we will publish a full privacy policy and ask you to agree to it when you create an account.

Who we are

Meetlyo is operated by Hamish Webb (NZBN 9429048516013), PO Box 22, Hawarden 7348, New Zealand (“Meetlyo”, “we”, “us”). We are responsible for your personal information under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020. You can contact us about anything in this policy at privacy@meetlyo.com.

What we collect

What you give us

  • Your email address (required).
  • Your first name, if you choose to give it.

What we record when you join and use the waitlist

  • Your consent: the date and time you joined and which version of our sign-up wording you saw.
  • Your waitlist record: whether you have confirmed your email, your place in line, your personal referral code, and whether you have turned update emails off.
  • Referrals: if you joined through someone’s invite link, we record that they referred you. If people join through your link, we record that you referred them and how many confirmed. We show you only the number of friends who joined through your link, never their names or emails.
  • How you found us: campaign tags in the link you used (for example “utm_source=instagram”), the website that sent you to us (for example tiktok.com), the page you landed on and which version of our headline you saw.
  • Approximate location: the country and, where available, region your internet connection appears to come from. Our network provider, Cloudflare, works this out from your IP address. We do not collect your precise location.
  • Abuse prevention: a one-way, scrambled version (“hash”) of your IP address, used to limit repeated sign-ups and spot self-referrals. We do not store your IP address itself, and we delete the hash after 30 days.
  • Email delivery: which waitlist emails we sent you, and whether an email bounced, was marked as spam, or you unsubscribed. We do not track whether you open our emails or which links you click in them.
  • Sharing: if you use the share buttons on your status page, we record which one you used (for example “WhatsApp”). We don’t see what you send or who you send it to.

What we don’t collect at this stage. We don’t ask for photos, your gender, who you’d like to meet, your age, your date of birth or any other dating-profile information to join the waitlist. If we later invite you to share any of this to help us plan a local launch, it will be optional. We’ll explain exactly why we’re asking, and ask for your consent separately.

On your device

We don’t use advertising or tracking cookies on the waitlist pages, and our fonts are served from our own website rather than a third-party font service. Our pages save two small items in your browser’s local storage:

  • For up to 30 days: how you arrived (campaign tags and any invite code). This means a friend’s invite still counts if you come back later to sign up.
  • After you confirm: your private status link, so you can return to your place in line on that device.

You can clear these at any time in your browser settings. Cloudflare may also set a short-lived, strictly necessary security cookie (for example __cf_bm) to protect the site from bots. To check that sign-ups come from real people, we use Cloudflare Turnstile, which assesses your browser without tracking you across sites.

Why we use your information

  • To check that your email address is real and belongs to you (we ask you to confirm it).
  • To keep your place in line, show it to you, and credit you when friends join through your invite link.
  • To email you about the things you signed up for: your waitlist place, early access, the Meetlyo launch and important updates about the product. We will also send your personal invitation when your turn comes.
  • To understand which channels and messages bring people to Meetlyo, and where in the world interest is growing. This helps us decide where to launch first, so that members have enough people nearby to meet.
  • To protect the waitlist from spam, bots and referral abuse.

We will not sell your personal information. We will not use it for third-party advertising or share it with anyone so they can market to you. We only use it for purposes that aren’t listed here if you agree, or if the law allows or requires it.

Emails and unsubscribing

We keep emails infrequent. Every update email includes a way to stop receiving updates, and you can switch them off at any time on your waitlist status page. Turning updates off doesn’t remove you from the waitlist. We’ll still send emails you need, such as your confirmation link, a fresh status link if you ask for one, and your invitation when your turn comes. To stop all emails, leave the waitlist (see below).

If you sign up but don’t confirm your email, we send at most one reminder. If it’s still unconfirmed after 30 days, we delete your details.

Who we share it with

We use a small number of service providers who process information on our behalf and only as we instruct:

  • Kinsta: hosts our website and the waitlist database (data centre: Sydney, Australia).
  • Cloudflare: website delivery, security and bot protection (Turnstile), and forwarding of email sent to our addresses.
  • Postmark (ActiveCampaign, LLC): delivers our emails and tells us about bounces, spam complaints and unsubscribes.

These providers may store or process information outside New Zealand, including in the United States. Where they do, we take reasonable steps to make sure your information is protected in a way comparable to the New Zealand Privacy Act. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of people or the service.

How long we keep it

  • Unconfirmed sign-ups: deleted within 30 days.
  • Scrambled IP addresses: deleted after 30 days.
  • Confirmed waitlist members: kept until you leave the waitlist, or until you move to a Meetlyo account when we launch. If Meetlyo does not launch, or you never take up your invitation, we will delete your waitlist details within 12 months of the waitlist closing.
  • Email sending logs: a rolling log of only the most recent 250 emails sent by the site, kept to diagnose delivery problems. Our email provider, Postmark, keeps its own delivery records for a limited period under its retention settings.

Your choices and rights

  • Leave the waitlist: use “Leave the waitlist” on your status page. We delete your details straight away.
  • Access and correction: under the Privacy Act you can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it. Email privacy@meetlyo.com. We may need to confirm the request comes from you, and we’ll reply within 20 working days.
  • Complaints: if you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, please tell us first. You can also complain to the New Zealand Office of the Privacy Commissioner (privacy.org.nz).

If you are in the UK or European Economic Area, you also have the right to erasure, to restrict or object to processing, and to data portability, and you can complain to your local data protection authority. Our legal bases are:

  • Your consent, for update emails. You can withdraw it at any time.
  • Taking the steps you asked for, for running your waitlist place and sending your invitation.
  • Our legitimate interests, for referral tracking, measuring our marketing, launch planning and preventing abuse.

Age

Meetlyo is for adults. You must be 18 or over to join the waitlist. If we learn that someone under 18 has joined, we will delete their details.

Security

All connections to meetlyo.com are encrypted (HTTPS). Only people at Meetlyo who need the waitlist can see it. Your private status link is never stored in readable form on our systems. No system is perfectly secure. If a privacy breach is likely to cause serious harm, we will tell you and the Privacy Commissioner as the law requires.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we’ll tell waitlist members by email before it takes effect.
